“And above all,
watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you,
because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”

I've been ill this week:(
So this Haunted Humpday post wont be as long.

Twinchie madness swap.

I was looking at the goodies on pinterest
and I found these gorgeous candy apples..
Black apples look elegant to me..

These bloody apples remind me of American Horror Story.
Perfect for a premier night party!

Look at how cute these are!!!

I'm so going to make these this year!!

Do you have any good candy/caramel apple recipes?

I'm excited for some movies to come out this year..
I like scary movies no matter what the release date is..
there's one that's supposed to come out this November 28.
It's called The Babadook.

This is the synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes:

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia is at a loss.
She struggles to discipline her 'out of control' 6-year-old, Samuel, a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel's dreams are plagued by a sinister monster he believes is coming to kill them both.
When a disturbing storybook called 'The Babadook' turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he's been dreaming about.
His hallucinations spiral out of control and as he becomes more unpredictable and violent, Amelia is genuinely frightened by her son's behaviour.
But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

 Here's another one called
As above so below...

This one came out August 29th

Miles of twisting catacombs lie beneath the streets of Paris, the eternal home to countless souls.
When a team of explorers ventures into the uncharted maze of bones, they uncover the secret of what this city of the dead was meant to contain.
A journey into madness and terror,
As Above, So Below reaches deep into the human psyche to reveal the personal demons that come back to haunt us all

I believe if you are willingly a witness to terrible events
you open yourself up to even more horrors in life.

Years ago my parents knew of a person named Rudy.
He was a pretty nice person, on the surface.
He let his true colors show once and it was pretty much the end
of his time around here.
As far as I know he has since passed away.
Anyway...
He used to stop and talk to my parents if he happened
to see them working in their garden in the evenings.
One such time he began by asking
what my parents thought of
the supernatural..
If they believed in evil spirits or not.
He was terribly upset...
Without waiting for an answer
He told them this story.
He and two of his friends, along with his 23 year old son
were outside of his home one weekend..
they were having a couple of beers and talking about their week.
It was mid February so the sun was sinking in the sky pretty early..
It was twilight and they were about to head inside when he saw
something on the roof of a house about 6 doors down across the road.
It was dark and moving quickly...jumping from rooftop to rooftop.
Normally it would have been dismissed as a cat, it seemed to have four legs.
but it was very large..
The others noticed he sudden preoccupation and looked in the direction he was
looking...they all saw it.
One of them swore it was an ape, another asked if it could possibly be a large dog.
He said it would jump on a roof and stop briefly and look around then it would continue..
As It got closer and closer He wildly thought it was a lion that had escaped from the zoo.
It stopped directly on the house across the street and looked at them.
The sky was inky blue by now so they couldn't get a good look at it.
It was just a darker shape against a dark sky.
Suddenly it seemed to leap from that rooftop across the road to his rooftop.

But he said it did not jump, it flew.
They all scrambled to get indoors.
When his wife questioned them
(as they all crushed each other trying to get in the front door)
they didn't know what to say..
It sounded too ridiculous.
They hadn't had that much to drink either.

The next morning he got up on the roof and
looked around trying to find evidence of whatever had been up there.
He, of course found nothing out of the ordinary.

About a week later
Rudy and his wife were getting ready for bed..
He went to the kitchen locked the back door
 and turned out the light.
As he walked back across the darkened room
he accidentally kicked their great Dane that was sleeping in the hall entry.
The dog growled low and threateningly & shifted it's position.
He was about to call out to the dog when he
suddenly got a very bad feeling.
Racing into the bedroom
and slamming the door closed had his wife
asking what the Hell was wrong this time..
turning to answer her he got a shock..
Their dog was asleep on the floor by the dresser.

After telling his story to my parents
my mother asked if he had seen or done anything
out of the ordinary lately.
This awful man confessed that he had witnessed
a murder, had in fact been invited to witness
the torture and murder of another human being.
My parents told this man that he needed
to fix the wrong that had been commited.
By church and by law.
Then they asked to please take his leave
as they wanted nothing to do with him.
They never spoke to him again,
and like I said I think he's since passed away.
It's been about thirty years.

Last week's give away winner is

That's it for this week my pretties.
May your autumn be blessed
with golden pumpkins
hot drinks and cool nights!!

Haunted Humpday IV

 BOO!
Did I scare you??
I hope you're ready for our next installment of

It's been a strange week...
Friday started with the normal heat and sun
then around 4 in the afternoon
a huge clap of thunder
scared us...
then the rain started, heavy then heavier...
but get this...other than a small grayish cloud the sky was clear!
See how weird the raindrops look?
the sun is hitting them cause it's shining!

I've never seen the rain come down so hard
from a relatively clear sky before.
The whole mood of the day changed for me after that.

Once it got dark the lights flickered a few times then
went out.
We lit candles
and made cocoa..

aren't these cute?

I took out a few of my favorite books

They're really fun and kid friendly.

Of course as soon as the lights are off
my little one starts
asking me to tell spooky stories..
so I oblige, haha!

In the book I talked about last week
Baleful Beasts & Eerie Creatures,
there's another story in there that is really good.
It's called

It's about a little girl that
moves into the neighborhood with her family.
While her mom and dad are running back and forth
between the old house and the new house,
She receives a package for the creepy old lady
down the street.
All of the neighbors suspect that the old woman is evil.
There's a warning written on the box:
KEEP OUT OF SUNLIGHT!
her curiosity gets the better of her &
she opens up the package.
inside is a horrible, dead, dried up creature about an inch tall.
It's so ugly she can't tell if it's human or animal.
She is so repulsed she drops the opened box in the front hall.
In full sunlight.
After she recovers from the shock
of seeing something so disturbing
she returns to the package so she can
wrap it back up.
The creature is gone.
Just then, the old lady
knocks on the door asking for the parcel.
The little girl lies and says
she's not received anything.
After warning the girl
about how dangerous
the package contents are,
she leaves.
The little girl continues searching frantically for it
but it's nowhere to be found,
Then....
she sees a shadow in the living room,
thinking it's a cat that got in the house somehow
she runs to catch it..
it could, after all, find the 'thing' and rip to shreds.
But she comes face to face with the creature from the box..
it's about a foot tall and seems to be growing.
she runs upstairs, but then realizes that she needs to get out of the house,
while trying to escape out the back door
she is cornered by the monster
so she hides in the basment.
It follows her in there and she can hear it sniffing around the boxes and old furniture.
The creature has grown very large by this time, at least taller than her father!
Somehow she gets out through a loose window.
She can see the lights on in the neighbor's house since it has grown dark by now.
Her pounding on the front door and cries for help are answered
by the old woman...
She drags the girl inside and tells her that since she knows
about the monster she cannot be allowed to leave again.
The old lady throws her into a room and locks the door.
The creature which has grown to at least 9 feet tall
is waiting for her.

I guess the moral of the story is, don't open your neighbor's mail, haha!

Once the lights turned back on
we made a few little
spooky buddies:)

The pumpkin and zombies
are pretty much just socks
stuffed and painted...
Helena had a lot of fun.

The bats are black socks
with stiff black felt wings
attached with a little hot glue.
Googly eyes and white felt teeth
complete the look.
you can hang them upside down
around your house.
If you get the socks at the dollar store
you can make a whole colony
to hang in the corner.

I bought this lithograph card at walmart
I thought you might like to see it.

Creepy right?

Oh look at how neat these are!!

$6.99 at Walgreens!
I'll make some for next week:)

I just completed this mixed media painting..

I'll put her in my very neglected shop soon.

As zombie filled as this post seems to be
I'm not as into them as some people are..
I don't read books on them or practice for the alleged Zombie apocalypse.
(some people really do that!)
But I have had some really ugly dreams.

This dream is pretty disturbing so if you don't want to read it,
please feel free to skip past it.

In this dream (I had it about 2 years ago) I was with my dad.
We were on our way to a wake.
The hallway that led to the viewing room was miles long...
The carpet was a deep maroon.
when we finally arrived my uncle
was lying on a table that was covered in red fabric.
He wasn't in a coffin, just on top of the table.
I was terrified.
Nothing was strange or odd..other than the missing coffin.
As we approached the corpse
my fear intensified.
We were behind a couple...a man and his mother, it looked like.
They stood in front of the body...
the man reached down and touched my uncle's arm.
Suddenly my uncle sat up and bit the man on the chest...
he wouldn't let go.
The man kept trying to pull away but he could not.
The sounds the corpse was making were horrifying.
I could see it's eyes...they were completely black, no whites at all.
I grabbed my dad and ran...knocking people down, stepping on whoever
was in our way.
Everyone in there seemed to be unaware of what had just happened.
once we got outside I started driving home as fast as I could.
We arrived at a bridge and I could see far over the town.
There was pandemonium.
Cars on fire, smoke everywhere, people staggering about with parts bitten off..
and we were trapped.
No way of moving through the town and no way back either..
As I began to panic I woke up.

Told you it was ugly.

Let's talk about the winner from last week's giveaway
It is....
congratulations!

I'm not finished yet...I have to add bats and lights!

ready for our story??
good.

My best friend in junior high
had a brother-in-law that swore this happened.

He and his younger brother went to visit
his great grandmother in a small town in mexico.
They had been there a few days
when their cousin suggested they go into town and have a few drinks.
Their great grandmother
didn't like the sound of this...it was a Sunday
and she felt it was very disrespectful of them to go drinking.
she said it was inviting evil.
Well nobody listened to her.
some more cousins dropped by & a few uncles and they
all got in his truck and took off.
They had a pretty good time..all twelve of them,
lot's of tequila, loud music and dancing girls.
Evening fell and soon the bar was closing.
They all piled into his truck ready to get home and sleep off the effects of the alcohol.
The truck would not start..not matter what they tried the engine wouldn't turn over.
They decided that walking home would be the best thing to do.
It would be easy to come by tomorrow and tow it to a mechanic.
The walk home proved to be lively and full of laughter...
they were, after all, pretty drunk.
All except his younger brother...he didn't drink as much as everyone else.
Since the walk back was through a very rural area with no lights around, they
depended on the light of the moon to see their way around rocks, trees and bushes.
About halfway home, they happened to see a lone donkey in the middle of the path.
They clamored to get on it..knocking each other down and laughing hysterically.
one by one they got on the donkey..
before long they realized that they were ALL on the donkey
at the same time.
The younger brother cried out in fear..when he did that, they all landed on the ground.
The donkey was no where to be seen.
They began to run home, terrified by what had happened..
every once in a while they could hear thrashing and crazed laughter in the tree branches above them.
The next day when they towed the truck to get repaired
they found out that the particular path they had taken was locally known as
"Tormenta de demonios"
which translates to storm of demons..
no one ever used this path, even during the day!

Well, I hope you are all feeling extra spooky now:)
I know I am!!!
Happy Haunted Humpday!

PS...you can post your HH until Friday night...I  know how hectic things can get:)
