watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you,
because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”

Haunted Humpday...almost october!

Can you believe it's the last Haunted Humpday of September?
Have you started decorating yet?
We started two months ago!

even our everyday decor is creepy..

We made a couple of Halloween crafts today
Witches brooms!!
all you need are dowels, sequins, glitter, assorted ribbons/yarns and hot glue.
put a dot of glue on the ends of your dowel, then wrap ribbon
all the way around it.
glue yarn to one end..
add sequins or glitter and you're all set.

This is Helena's broom

This is her broom on magic, haha

This is my broom.

My little broom really did fly too! right under the bed in the mouth of a
dirty cat named Rigby.

tonight's story concerns a person my family has known for a while..
This guy does things with out thinking them through.

One night he was out with friends and things got a bit
out of hand...everyone was argumentative and threats were
being thrown around....
It got really heated and he ended up shooting a guy in the face.
He says he heard sirens almost immediately
and he ran out the back door..
he ran, he said, for what seemed like hours,
out into the middle of nowhere..
there weren't any people,  there was nothing but desert...
he said he felt like he was being watched
but he assumed it was because of the horrible guilt he felt.
after running many many miles, he began to walk..the night claustrophobic in it's darkness.
he was going through lot's of dried up grasses and it almost sounded like his footsteps had an echo.

He became very afraid..so he started running again,
the footfalls, very obviously were not an echo..
they were deliberate..so was the maniacal laughing  that followed ..
he would tire and slow down and whoever it was would slow down too..
He finally arrived at a ranch house and decided to see if he could hide there
a while
before heading to Mexico to 'get lost'.
The ranch had dozens of large dogs roaming around..
presumably to guard the place..
he said not one of them approached him..instead they seemed scared and
began howling at him.
He went into the barn and saw a dog lying in a large box,
giving birth to puppies that seemed to have human faces.
He became so frightened that he ran back out to the desert
and this time he would catch glimpses of someone running very rapidly through the
trees and underbrush to the side of him...
He swears it was tall but furry, like an animal.
It also had bright glowing eyes.

he was apprehended that night, but he says he almost felt relief
when he got into the police car...
to be away from whatever was chasing him was a great feeling.

thanks for stopping by...

Apples!

The theme for the week at the
 three muses challenge  is apples.

This kind of reminded me of the witch's house
from
 Hansel & Gretel.

Hope you have a great evening...
I'm off to bed:)
Goodnight!

Haunted Design House Challenge

While all the creatures in this house are busy sleeping,
I'd thought I'd join in on the
Macabre Monday Challenge.

The challenge is to create something dark and macabre... nothing cute.
September's theme is
This particular piece was created with
a paperclay face
tissue paper
a cardboard coffin lid
mini skeleton arms
dried rose petals
small glitter star.

I think the sharpest, most bittersweet relationships
are the ones that are brief.
It might feel like it ended almost before it started,
but the emptiness inside is so very tangible.

This is called
 'Regret'
knowing that
the long nights of the cold season are drawing in
almost seem to make the pain worse.

Haunted Humpday for a King

Hello again..
As you know, Monday was my favorite author's birthday.
This Haunted Humpday is dedicated to him.

I woke up to thunder and lightening!!
The morning was gorgeous...
Dark, dreary, and then it started raining :)

This was the first movie we watched.

Then,

Helena got to watch her favorite during lunch..

She wanted to craft while we listened to some stories on
the Night Shift audio book.
We made Manglers...
(in case you're not familiar with the story, here's a plot summary from Wikipedia)
A police detective investigating a sudden rash of grisly deaths caused by an industrial laundry press machine discovers that, through a series of unfortunate coincidences that lead to certain ingredients (blood, herbs etc., used in an old spell to summon demons), the machine has become possessed by such a demon.
The story ends after the detective and his friend underestimate the demon's power;
and in seeking to exorcise the machine, they instead goad it into ripping free of its moorings and prowling the streets in search of fresh prey.

This is hers..

This is the one I made...
it's all pale and washed out because
I didn't use as much red paint as she did. hahaha

We set up our table with some of our past artwork..
This is a Mother's Day gift from my little imp:)

I painted this in January.

Helena came up with most of the titles to these items on our "menu"
Pet semetary pizza..
She asked me to cut all the pepperoni into tombstone shapes..
Desperation hot dogs.
Tom Gordon trail mix,
which was basically m&ms, mini marshmallows and peanuts.
A dessert that looked like a meteor.
Pig blood punch.
And our very special Father's Day Cake.
(not all the food was available to photograph, unfortunately, lol)

Meteor sh*t
(don't worry, it's just a giant cake pop)

We lit the Father's Day cake and made wishes.

We ended the night with this..

and this..

There were presents too!
She was getting ready to go to sleep by this time but before she got in bed
she surprised me with the little gift she made for me..
It's a Langolier!

and a ring she bought me
on her last shopping trip with my older daughter!

These are the gifts I made for her..
This is Jordy Verrill from Creepshow..
He's a felted fellow.

and a tiny painting...

We had a great time!
We couldn't watch every single one of our favorites...
But maybe this weekend we'll catch up on more.

I'm not going to add a scary story this week because nothing compares to this
man's masterpieces..
But I would like to recommend a story that is especially chilling.
Read it with the covers pulled up over your head!!

Thanks for joining us for this very special edition of
Haunted Humpday...
Have a spooky week!

Stephen King's Birthday

It's the first day of Autumn!
I couldn't wait for this time of year...
The temps aren't as cool as I'd like...
at 2 a.m. it's 88 degrees
but it's ok, it's supposed to rain later today
& even if it doesn't...it matters very little because
today is
 Stephen King's Birthday!!

This man is very important to me..
I've been reading him since I was a child.
His stories are pieces of time suspended in a bubble for me.
I know where I was when I read each and every book.

husband being mean?
Who cares?
Go visit the people in Bridgton, Maine
as they try to find their way through an unending
Mist
Siblings acting like morons?
Whatever...
at least you aren't being chased down by
the Boogeyman

He has stood by me through thick and thin...
from the sleepless nights brought on by a newborn
to the all night vigils at the bedside of an ill parent.
He is a man I can truly count on.

He can scare me with a simple set of chattery teeth.
He can horrify me with an innocuous hiking trip.
A peaceful red eye flight can go very wrong when you fly with him.
He's there to change your perspective, to make you realize
that the thing you've been afraid of is nothing compared to what can really happen.

I expect he will be around long after I am gone..his stories are timeless
and therefor he is immortal.

we are having a party in his honor today..
you can read about it on this week's Haunted Humpday.

So to this lovely man
that has both terrified and comforted me
 all on the same page..

Happy Birthday.

Haunted Humpday = movies, dinners and corners

It's here again.
Hope you had a creepy week, haha!

We found the pumpkins...last Thursday a shipment arrived at the grocery store near us.
We're so excited...!

Have you watched any scary movies lately?
We just went tonight and watched
The Visit.

It was so good!!
very odd...and unexpected.

One of the things I look forward to most at movies are the previews.
There's one coming out in 2016
that looks extremely interesting.

Here's the trailer..

I can't wait!!!!!

so are you planning out your Halloween dinner yet?
We used to have a great one every year...
except for the past few years..they turned into a "fast food" nightmare..
now that things are better and back to normal,
I'm looking for creepy recipes for our dinner this time around.

I found this one..

It's a meatloaf!
It's only slightly nasty...still kind of cute right?
there are other recipes that are so damn disgusting I'd probably puke
attempting to eat it.
Here's a great site with a bunch of gross/cute ideas.

Last week I talked about the pine cones we gathered
and the silly Halloween creatures Helena made..
Here's the Bigfoot I mentioned her creating for this week.
She named him Sam-squatch.

I have a winner for the planchette I felted last week!

It's Laura
From Laura's Favorite Things.
Congratulations...!!!

It's bad luck to walk under a ladder. This came from the early Christian belief that a leaning ladder formed a triangle with the wall and ground. You must never violate the Holy Trinity by walking through a triangle or you be would be considered in league with the devil.
The ladder and the wall form a corner, of sorts...
when you break the triangle the devil is supposed to appear...allegedly.

This thing happened when I was probably around six
When my nephew was born my brother's wife would bring him
over so my mom could see him.
One night, she put him to bed in the back bedroom and went into the living room
to visit with my mother.
She went to look in on him periodically, he was only two months old at the time..
She went back in to check him then
My mother heard her calling for her frantically
when she entered the bedroom
she was holding the baby and crying...she had him in a carrier in the middle of a queen size bed, but when
she walked in..he was across the room in the corner, still in his carrier.
Our family dog, went in to be nosy, I guess because of the commotion,
and immediately began barking viciously at the corner of the room where the baby had just been.
the dog's hackles were up and it wouldn't stop barking no matter how many times my
mom called to it.
My mother and my brother's wife began walking out of the room
scared already..as  they began walking to the door, the lights in the room went out.

My dad insisted it was only a nervous old dog...and a fuse that blew..
my brother's wife never went back though.
She was convinced there was something in
that corner that meant to harm her baby.
What do you think??

As usual, thank you for stopping by this week...
leave a comment and next week you could win a mini imp of your own!!

See you soon!!
